Sea&Sea DX-5000G housing/camera set (04-10-2004)

Sea&Sea has announced the DX-5000G set, existing of the DX-5000G underwater housing and the 5000G digital camera.

The polycarbonate housing can be used to a depth of 55 meters. It is designed with an external strobe in mind: two sockets allow direct connection of the fiber-optic cables of the Sea&Sea YS-25 and YS-90 series (so without the usual velcro). There is also a versatile internal flash diffuser that with the push of a lever slips into place to soften the camera's internal flash, or moves out of the way for strong, clear lighting.

The 5000G (actually a Ricoh Caplio GX) is a 5.13 megapixel (2592 x 1944 px) digital camera with a 28 - 85 mm lens (3x zoom). Besides full automatic and six scene modes, the more advanced photographers will also like the manual modes of operation.

Other highlights include the extreme small macro distance of 1cm, the wide ISO range (64 to 1600) and the very fast shutter lag of only 0.12 seconds.
