Canon EOS 350D/Rebel XT underwater housings (23-04-2005)
The recently released Canon EOS 350D (Digital Rebel XT) digital SLR is a big improvement over it's 300D predecessor. Differences include a 8.0 megapixel CMOS sensor, near instant power on time, smaller, lighter, re-designed LCD panel, higher pop-up flash and much much more. Sadly, the change in dimensions and button locations forces housing manufacturers to develop new models. So far, three manufacturers have a model for release in the near future. Ikelite is always quick on adapting their housings, and will have an updated version of their dSLR housing ready for the EOS 350D this May.
The #6871.35 housing features full camera capabilities, operates safely to 60 meters, and leaves little to be desired in a housing. The complete range of ports for their SLR systems can be utilized, allowing use of most macro, wide angle, and zoom lenses.
Conversion circuitry that provides eTTL2 compatibility for DS-50 and DS-125 SubStrobes is included. The circuitry includes two f/stop over and under exposure compensation in half-stop increments, and eight manual power settings in half-stop increments by simply pushing a button. The new 350D housing from UK-GERMANY is made of seawater resistant aluminum.
All functions of the camera can be used in this housing. It can be equipped with a S6 shoe for Canon eTTL2 or Nikonos V for manual TTL, a second shoe is optional. The extensive UK port collection can be used, thus allowing many different lenses to be used. A flat port and zoom ring for the EF-S 18-55 Canon kit lens is standard.
Mediasub/Bruder also have 350D housing made of carbon ready:
It includes a standard port for the original 18-55 lens including zoom ring, choice of a Nikonos or S6 shoe, and a leak detector. More details to follow.
