Five new Canon PowerShot underwater housings (18-08-2005)

Canon have released a whole new set of digital compact cameras in their PowerShot series and at the same time have announced five new underwater housings. An overview:

The WP-DC1 is designed for the new PowerShot S80:

The S80 camera is equipped with an approximately 8.0 million camera effective pixel and 1/1.8-inch Charge Coupled Device (CCD). It is the successor of the S70.

The WP-DC1 underwater housing can be used to take underwater shots at depths of up to 40 meters (130 feet).

The WP-DC80 housing is designed to take the new PowerShot SD550 (IXUS 750) camera underwater:

The SD 550 is a nicely designed compact digital camera with an 7.1 million effective pixel CCD, and a massive 2.5” LCD.

With the WP-DC80 underwater housing, the SD550 can be taken to depths of up to 40 meters.

The WP-DC90 is also an underwater housing rated to 40 meters:

The WP-DC90 can be used for the new PowerShot A610 and A620 cameras. These cameras, with 5.0 and 7.1 megapixel resolution, have a special underwater mode, that yields a better white balance to record images with natural hues by reducing the bluish tone.

Besides the underwater housings, two new weather proof housings have also been introduced. First, the AW-DC40:

The AW-DC40 is an all-weather casing for the new Powershot SD30 (Digital IXUS i zoom). You can use this case to take underwater shots at depths of down to 3 meters (9.8 ft.). Of course, it's also ideal for taking worry-free pictures in the rain, at the beach, or on the ski slopes.

Second, the AW-DC50:

The new PowerShot SD450 (Digital IXUS 55) is a slender, 5.0 Megapixel camera with a 3x optical zoom. Combined with the AW-DC50 all weather case, this camera can be taken to depths of up to 3 meters.
