Patima 350DX and 580EX camera/strobe housings (23-09-2005)

Patima has released pictures and information of their new products, the Patima 350DX and 580EX, underwater housings for the Canon EOS 350D (Rebel XT) and Speedlite 580EX.

The 350DX is a seawater resistant aluminum alloy housing and has a depth rating of 120 meters maximum. The housing measures 180x160x116mm (excl. port and handles), and weighs 3200g (incl. camera, 60mm macro lens, port and handles).

The camera is mounted on a saddle for precise positioning inside the housing. Ergonomical placement of all important controls provide convenience and comfortable handling of the camera functions.

Patima adopted the safety locking clamps from stainless steel to prevent accidental opening. A viewfinder with 4 lenses in 3 groups is included standard.

The Patima 350DX features 2 strobe connectors and 1 accessory shoe as standard. The twin connectors permit dual flashing for E-TTL or manual photography without the need for a dual sync cord or adapter. The accessory shoe allows mounting the mini shoe arm, the focus light and other accessories.

The Patima 580EX is a strobe housing for the Speedlite 580EX, Canon's flagship flash unit for their digital SLRs with maximum guide number of 58.

The Patima 350DX can be equipped with two 6 Pin Connectors for connecting the 580EX, providing 100% E-TTL flashing.

Patima is still testing the housings intensively, but will present them at DEMA 2005 in Las Vegas as premiere. The housings are expected to become available to the European market in mid October.
