Canon WP-DC16/17/18/19/21 underwater housings (24-08-2007)

Canon has announced five new underwater housings for their new PowerShot and Digital IXUS cameras.

The WP-DC16 underwater housing is intended for the PowerShot A720 IS. A digital camera that combines an 8.0 Megapixel CCD with a 6x optical zoom lens, optical Image Stabilizer technology1 and advanced high ISO capabilities.

The WP-DC17 case is designed for the 8.0 Megapixel Digital IXUS 860 IS / SD 870 IS Digital ELPH. This camera offers a 3.0" PureColor LCD and improved Face Detection Technology. The camera's high ISO capabilities work in tandem with an optical Image Stabilizer lens to significantly reduce the risk of image blur.

The WP-DC18 housing is designed for the PowerShot A650 IS. A range-leading camera with 12.1 Megapixel CCD, 6x optical zoom lens and a 2.5" vari-angle LCD.

The WP-DC19 is for the titanium-cased IXUS 960 IS / SD 950 IS. This camera has a 12.1 Megapixel sensor, a new 3.7x optical Image Stabilizer zoom, complemented by Auto ISO Shift and high ISO 1600, offering Canon's total anti-blur solution.
Finally, the WP-DC21 for the 12.1 Megapixel PowerShot G9, the successor to the PowerShot G7. The G9 incorporates improvements including RAW image capture and a redesigned grip and thumb rest for improved handling. Other advancements include a high resolution 3.0" PureColor LCD II, enhanced Face Detection Technology and Red-Eye Correction in playback.

All cameras have a special Underwater Scene Mode, that yields image data in the optimal white balance to record images with natural hues by reducing the bluish tone. The camera's internal flash can be used inside the housing to illuminate subjects (a removable diffuser is included) or trigger an external slave strobe. The underwater housings can be safely used to depths of 40 meters.
