DEEP Indonesia underwater photo competition winners (23-04-2008)

Wetpixel.com and DivePhotoGuide.com, two popular underwater photography websites, have set the bar by developing a series of international competitions like no other under the brand UnderwaterCompetition.com.

Now in their third year, the competitions have become world renowned. The competition series is associated with dive expos on opposite sides of the world, namely Our World Underwater in Chicago, USA, which is both a photo & video competition, and DEEP Indonesia in Jakarta, Indonesia, which is photo-only. The competition series was established to offer a complementary series of categories and prizing opportunities, and this year awarded over US$80,000 in prizes. The winners alone spanned across 18 countries.

The competitions are open to all skill levels and include a category for images that focus on conservation and the marine environment, one for entries taken by compact digital cameras, and one specifically for Indonesian residents. All compact camera category entrants receive one free online underwater photography lesson courtesy of Marty Snyderman and TheUnderwaterPhotographer.com.

Esteemed judges Eric Cheng, David Espinosa, Stephen Frink, Ric Frazier, Alex Mustard, Chuck Nicklin, Mary Lynn Price, Berkley White, and Tony Wu, selected winners which were announced live in Chicago and Jakarta, published online and in supporting media partners worldwide. As with all Underwatercompetition.com events, 15% of entry proceeds are donated to marine conservation efforts.
