UK-GERMANY at the Beijing 2008 Summer Olympics (21-08-2008)
Every time when Michael Phelps, Stephanie Rice or Britta Steffen go medal hunting in the National Aquatics Center (nicknamed the "Water Cube") at the Beijing 2008 Summer Olympics, Wolfgang Rattay of the Reuters news agency is there with his EOS 1Ds Mark III. His Canon camera and the Wireless File Transmitter WFTE-2 are safe in a unique UK-GERMANY underwater housing, especially designed for the Olympics.
In cooperation with Subtronic, UK-GERMANY has manufactured the system based on the Wolfgang's requirements and desires. This enabled Reuters to control the camera and also deliver images from the pool in near real time on a laptop computer, giving them an important advantage over the competition.
This helped landing the first underwater photo by Michael Phelps in his 400m individual medley world record in the hands of Reuters' global customers, even before he hit the target in 4 minutes, 3.84 seconds. Something of a record on its own. Wolfgang Rattay's underwater shots have been included immediately after the race in online media, including MSNBC, New York Times, Yahoo, Independent, L'Equipe, Gazetto dello Sport, Mirror , Stern, FAZ, Welt and many more. There have also been numerous publications in international and national newspapers and magazines.
Audiences around the world also can enjoy impressive shots of synchronized swimming, that otherwise remain hidden from them. ![]() UK-GERMANY once more demonstrated what the small Hessian company is capable of. UK-GERMANY wishes Wolfgang Rattay many more "golden shots". All housing models that are available to the public can be found on the UK-GERMANY underwater housings page.
