Ikelite underwater housing for Canon 1000D/Rebel XS (27-08-2008)

Ikelite have announced a full-featured yet affordable underwater housing for the Canon 1000D/Rebel XS Digital SLR camera.

The Canon EOS 1000D/Rebel XS is featuring a 10.1 Megapixel CMOS sensor, 7-point wide area AF system and up to 3fps continuous JPEG shooting until the memory card is full. It represents a more affordable entry point to the world of EOS cameras.

With the lightest body of any digital EOS camera, the EOS 1000D incorporates a range of technologies used in Canon’s professional EOS-1 series cameras, including the DIGIC III image processor, and Live View mode. For straight-from-the-box shooting, the EOS 1000D is available with a Canon EF-S 18-55mm IS lens – which includes 4-stop image stabilisation, ensuring superb performance even in low-light conditions.

The heavy duty thick wall Ikelite #6841.7 underwater housing is molded of corrosion free clear polycarbonate, features full capabilities, and operates safely to 60 meters.

The size and weight provides neutral buoyancy and superb handling underwater. Camera installation is quick and simple. The dependable controls are conveniently placed at your fingertips, and kept water tight with Ikelite pioneered Quad-Ring seal glands proven to be the most reliable method for sealing controls.

A full range of dome and flat ports accommodate most macro, wide-angle and zoom lenses. Port attachment is quick and easy with a simple locking system and clear view of the port o-ring seal. Lens port not included. A large zoom control knob can be comfortably reached without removing your hand from the handle.

The Ikelite Super-Eye magnifier comes standard and offers enhanced visibility of the camera's viewfinder while wearing a diving mask. The camera's live-view feature can also be used to its full potential with an unobstructed view through the back of the housing.

Built-in conversion circuitry for true Canon eTTL puts perfect exposure at your fingertips. The TTL mode provides four half f/stop increments over or under flash compensation to fine-tune exposure. Eight manual power settings in half-stop increments allow for complete creative control.

Exposure can be adjusted directly through the back of the housing using two pushbuttons. Settings are clearly indicated even at night by a series of LED lights. The special TTL conversion circuitry operates perfectly with current model Ikelite DS digital SubStrobes. Other strobes can be used, but they cannot provide TTL or be manually controlled through the housing back.

The Ikelite will be available this September, with a market MSRP of around 1400 USD/1200 Euro.
