Canon WP-DC26, WP-DC27 and WP-DC28 housings (17-09-2008)

Canon has announced three new underwater housings for their new PowerShot and Digital IXUS cameras.

The WP-DC16 underwater housing is intended for the PowerShot SD880 IS DIGITAL ELPH/DIGITAL IXUS 870 IS.

A digital camera that combines an 10.0 megapixel CCD with a 4x optical zoom lens (f/2.8–f/5.8) with a shift-type optical Image Stabilizer (IS).

The WP-DC27 case is designed for the 14.7 megapixel PowerShot SD990 IS DIGITAL ELPH / DIGITAL IXUS 980 IS.

This camera boasts an strikingly elegant and high-grade body design that is appropriate for the top model of the PowerShot SD series. It has a Manual (M) mode in which you can set both the shutter speed and aperture value to achieve the exposure you want.

The WP-DC28 housing is designed for the 14.7 Megapixel PowerShot G10, the successor to the PowerShot G9.

The G10 incorporates changes including as a new 14.7 megapixel CCD sensor and, more usefully, a new 28-140mm wide zoom and increased screen resolution, plus a DIGIC IV processor. A new top panel layout adds a dedicated AE compensation dial and there's an improved grip, but overall externally the changes are subtle.

All cameras have a special Underwater Scene Mode, that yields image data in the optimal white balance to record images with natural hues by reducing the bluish tone. The camera's internal flash can be used inside the housing to illuminate subjects (a removable diffuser is included) or trigger an external slave strobe. The underwater housings can be safely used to depths of 40 meters.
