Focus light for the Sea&Sea YS-90 strobe

YS-90 with focuslicht

As the Sea&Sea YS-90 does not have a built-in focus/aiming light, this DIY solution with the Fantasea LED lamp may help improve your camera under water.

Parts

1 strobe
1 dive lamp
1 old bike inner tube
1 clamp for PVC pipes
6 clamp rings
1 bolt, 8mm
1 wing-nut, 8mm

Process

Remove the fixed bolt of the clamp and drill 8mm holes. Bend the flaps on the ring while applying heat, so that they position nicely when the ring is placed on the strobe.

Cut the tube to the size of the strobe and use the ring to determine the good width.

Place the tube around the strobe, place the ring over it and attach the lamp using the bolt and nut. Use the rings to fill any room between ring and lamp for a tight fit.

Any DIY-capable underwater photographer can of course use a similar method for other strobes and lamps and get a good result.
